Dawkins spent all summer in Phoenix, where under the supervision of his uncle, Leonard Robinson, who played in the NBA for 11 years, twice appeared in the All Star Game, and in 1978 became the best rebounder of the entire league, he tried to improve his skills. The last two seasons at Elon were already very good in his performance, and in the last of them he scored on average: 12.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.3 blocks per game, while being the captain of the team.
