Slovakia champion and national team member of Estonia in Gliwice. Kurbas joins GTK

After the list of national transfers, it is time to publish the first player from outside Poland. In the season 2018/19, in GTK we will see the national team member of Estonia, Tanel Kurbas. The 30 year old player in recent competitions played in BK Levicki Patrioti, with whom he won the title of Slovakia champion.
The title of the best team in the country of our southern neighbors is not the only trophy in the collection of our new player. Before Kurbas started playing in other countries, he achieved very good results in native Estonia. In the native league he made his debut in 2006 played for Noortekoondis / Audentes, and after a year of playing in this club he moved to Dalkia / Nybit. After another 24 months he went to Kaleva, with whom in the first season of performances he celebrated winning the national cup, and then a year later the first championship title. From 2010, he represented Tartu Ulikool, with whom he won the Estonian Cup four times, and finally in 2015 he won the Estonian championship . In the final his team defeated Kalev / Cramo in a 4:1 ratio and Kurbas was elected the MVP of final. In the summer, a basketball player appearing in the position of a shooting guard or small forward took part in the EuroBasket, in which his national team took 20th place and our new player scored on average 5.3 points, 2.0 rebounds 1.0 assists per match within 19 minutes of play. From 2016 he left his homeland and moved to the Swedish Sordetajle Kings, with which he also played in the Champions League and FIBA EuroCup. After a year of playing in Scandinavia he moved to the Slovakian BK Levicki Patrioti. His team, although after the regular season was classified in second place, but in the playoff phase it turned out to be the best and won the title of national champion. Kurbas scored on average: 10.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 0.9 steals per game within 25 minutes of play. Interestingly, he threw at 65% effectiveness with the game, which is a very good result for the peripheral player.
Despite such a good season, the national team member of Estonia decided to change club and went to our country. - My decision was dictated by the fact that the Polish league is definitely stronger than those in which I had the opportunity to perform until now. From my manager I know that GTK is an ambitious club and wants to fight for a better place than the last - explains the reasons for his decision Kurbas. - Before signing the contract I talked about the league and the club with several people and I am aware of the fact that a large number of teams participate in the competitions, and some of them are very strong - adds the national team member of Estonia, who is well aware that this time for trophies can be hard. - When I signed a contract in Slovakia, the team was promoted to the semifinals. Nobody talked about medals, let alone championships. However, we did a great thing. In Gliwice, I will try to do my best in every match and see what results we will achieve together - admit the 30 year old basketball player, who will be among the most experienced in the team, is clearly pointing out.
- My game starts with defensive. I always want to keep my rival and help the team as much as I can. The attack is based on penetration and long range shots. I am trying to get to the basket by make penetration on the end line with slam dunks - a new GTK player characterizes his game.
